Passing the Adande test

We have completed the design, build and installation of a state-of-the-art research, development and testing facility for Lowestoft based refrigeration innovator, Adande. The project was completed, from initial design consultancy to commissioning, in four months to meet the client’s product development schedule.

The establishment of the bespoke facility included the installation of three environmental test chambers. The test rooms were designed to exceed the requirements of all climate classes within BS EN ISO 23953, EN 16825, EN 16901 and EN 16902, which are the recognised industry standards for the testing of refrigeration equipment, including the new energy labelling regulations for food retailing and foodservice equipment.

The energy efficient plant incorporates the latest design features, including a single control system to regulate humidity, temperature and fan speed within the chambers, backed by sophisticated data acquisition and monitoring systems. We also designed, built and installed door opening equipment to simulate the use of glass doors cabinets in live supermarket environments.

The new laboratory is part of an investment to help Adande, and its consortium partners, accelerate the development and commercialisation of its Aircell technology. Aircell is a unique and patented air flow management system, which has been designed for the improved performance and reduced energy consumption of refrigerated displays used for grocery retailing.

Commenting on the project, Adande’s Managing Director, Ian Wood, stated:
“ECH Engineering made a huge contribution to the establishment of our new refrigeration testing facility. Throughout the process, which included consultancy, design, installation, commissioning and staff training, Dr Hammond and his team demonstrated professionalism and commitment, which saw the project completed to a very tight schedule.”

The new facility was formally opened by the then Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Rt Hon Liz Truss, at a ceremony held on 8 July 2016. To view the video on the test facility and the opening event, please click on the video above.
